How I make my Goat Blankets

When I noticed one of my goats get cold I realized my need for goat blankets.  I couldn't find any online that where thick enough for Colorado winters and reasonably priced.  Making my own was the best economical option.  After creating and trying out multiple different patterns, I voted on this one as the best.  This pattern seemed to fit my goats the best, stay on well, and tear the least.  The time required is around an hour.  

Materials needed:

• One comforter

• 9 ft outdoor clothesline cut into:  Two 8 in Neck Ties; Two 12 in Chest Ties; Four 15 in Tummy Sash Ties. 

• Measuring tape

• Scissors

• Sewing machine

• One goat

1. Measuring the goat.  
2. Cut out the blanket and the tummy sash.  The below picture show where to take the measurements on the goat and how to apply them to the blanket.
3. Hem the blanket and the sash.  

4.Where the neck piece meets the chest piece enforce with extra sewing like picture below.  It is to keep the slit that is in between the neck and the chest from ripping and getting bigger.  

5.  Add the ties.  First picture is how I stitch the ties on.  Second picture shows where to add them and the finished product.

6. Try on goat and admire handiwork. 

• Blue Arrows: where to tie the tummy sash.
• Red Arrow: where to tie the chest ties.
• Golden Arrow: where to tie the neck ties.

Whenever the temperature gets under 10 F, my goatys are dressed in blankets.  Highly fashionable, these blankets are individually tailored to each goats unique build.  Material choices include thrift store comforters or old jackets.  Patterns are random and designed to be pleasing to the eye.  Snug and comfortable they also allow for a wide range of movement.  Goats float off to dreamland wrapped in soft fluffiness.  
Disclaimer:  Some goats are extremely dexterous and can jump out of anything, even such a well made and tightly tied blanket as this.  The life of the blanket is not guarantied as some goats in ample displeasure cause untold damage to said blanket by tearing with bottom teeth.
